In 2001 we introduced our “Cellardoor” concept to indicate limited release wines of exceptional quality. The “Cellardoor” label is unique and obviously relates to special and exclusive wine. Our 2003 Semillon satisfies all these requirements and offers an interesting alterative to other whites in our range. This wine was made from fully ripe, healthy fruit in a good white wine vintage. The majority of the grapes came from a mature, bush vine vineyard ensuring complexity. A quarter of the wine was barrel fermented and left “sur lie” for two months to assist the structure of the wine. Excessive oaking was avoided to ensure retention of the natural freshness of Semillon.
Wine Cellaring: Although it tastes good now this 2003 Semillon should reward a patient three to four year wait.
Tasting Notes: The wine is full bodied with a soft lingering finish. On the nose it shows typical grassiness with a hint of oak spice.
